Code of Conduct
Our tech meetup group is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for individuals who identify as women, people of color (POC), and LGBTQ+ in their journey to explore and excel in the field of technology. We strive to create a safe space where everyone feels welcome, respected, and valued. To ensure a positive experience for all participants, we have established the following code of conduct:
Respect and Inclusivity
- Treat all attendees, speakers, organizers, and volunteers with respect, regardless of their gender, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
- Foster an inclusive environment by actively listening to and considering diverse perspectives and experiences.
- Avoid discriminatory, offensive, or exclusionary language and actions, including but not limited to racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or harassment in any form.
Welcoming and Supportive Environment
- Create a friendly, supportive, and open atmosphere where individuals can engage in discussions, ask questions, and share ideas without fear of judgment or criticism.
- Encourage collaboration, cooperation, and mentorship among members to promote knowledge sharing and professional growth.
- Be mindful of language and topics discussed, ensuring they are inclusive, respectful, and relevant to our community.
Inclusivity in Speaker Selection
- Prioritize diversity in our speaker lineup, actively seeking out individuals who identify as women, POC, and LGBTQ+ to share their knowledge and experiences.
- Encourage and support individuals from underrepresented groups to submit proposals and contribute to our events.
- Value a variety of perspectives, backgrounds, and expertise when selecting speakers and topics.
Reporting and Addressing Issues
- Report any concerns, incidents, or violations of this code of conduct to the event organizers or designated point of contact promptly and discreetly.
- Respect the confidentiality and privacy of those involved in reported incidents.
- The organizers are committed to investigating and addressing reported issues promptly, maintaining transparency throughout the process.
Zero Tolerance for Harassment
- Harassment, including but not limited to verbal, written, physical, or visual abuse, intimidation, stalking, or unwelcome advances, will not be tolerated.
- Be mindful of personal boundaries and obtain consent before engaging in physical contact.
- Respect the rights and personal space of others, both online and offline.
Consequences for Violations
- Participants who violate this code of conduct may face consequences, including but not limited to warnings, expulsion from the event, or banning from future events.
- The severity of the violation and appropriate action will be determined by the event organizers or designated point of contact.
Enforcement
Our code of conduct is designed to ensure an inclusive and empowering environment for everyone involved in our tech meetup group. By adhering to these guidelines, we can collectively create a space that encourages learning, growth, and professional development for all individuals, regardless of their background or identity.
